Familia Castillo de Canena

Canena Castle

We are a family company linked to the world of olive oil since 1780.

More than two centuries of history and learning as olive oil producers in which, together with a firm commitment to sustainability, innovation, quality and excellence, we have managed to become world leaders in the premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil sector.

We are siblings Rosa and Francisco Vañó and in 2003, being at the time senior managers of multinational companies such as Coca-Cola and Banco de Santander, we decided to change our professional directions and fully embark on the project of transforming the family business of olive grove production and olive oil manufacturing, marketed as bulk oil, into a new Castillo de Canena: a modern company, focused on the creation of a high-end EVOO brand with a high spirit of innovation.

Monumento Artístico Nacional en 1931

Renaissance castle

Declared a National Artistic Monument in 1931.

Castillo de Canena is also the name of our family home. A Renaissance castle located in the town of Canena, Jaén, which treasures a unique history. It was built by the Arab tribe Banu Kinana on the ruins of a Roman settlement. Later, under the command of the military order of Calatrava, it formed part of the belt of defensive fortresses during the Reconquest, a group of castles called the “adelantados”, which were a border with the Arab kingdom of Granada for more than 200 years.

Finally, in 1538 the secretary of Emperor Charles V, Francisco de los Cobos, turned it into a castle-palace by the prestigious architect Andrés de Vandelvira.

Declared a National Artistic Monument in 1931, it is for the exclusive use of our family, clients and friends, although it can be visited on Monday afternoons or by reservation any other day of the week.
