Intense and complex flavours that reminds to green almond, green grass, banana peel, artichoke, tomato plant, vine stems, buns, walnut crust and green apple. Bitter and spicy something more prominent but well integrated and very balanced. It has a certain astringency and a pleasant persistence, mint aftertaste.

The firm, whose name comes from the family castle nestled on a hillside in the township of Canena (Jaén), has utmost respect for the environment. This commitment to sustainable development can be seen in the generation of photovoltaic energy on site, plant cover on the entire premises that mitigates soil erosion and preserves autochthonous vegetation, and the use of pruning waste biomass as ecologically sound, non-polluting fuel. Nowadays their oils are in 40 countries where have been recognised with the highest international awards.
Castillo de Canena is member of EVA (Extra Virgin Alliance), premier international association of extra virgin olive oils whose aim is to promote and guarantee—through the most rigorous oversight and a common quality seal—excellence in the extraction and preservation of extra virgin olive oils along the entire distribution chain; as well as the sustainability and preservation of the olive grove ecosystem.
Castillo de Canena also belongs to the Association of Grandes Pagos del Olivar, uniting the best Spanish extra virgin olive oil producers that opt for very limited quantity production of the highest quality, elaborated through methods that combine artisanal characteristics with the application of the most advanced technologies.
First Day of Harvest Arbequina is a limited edition of the oil recollected the first day of harvest, the first 24 hours of recollection. Each year, somebody from the artistic world, society, sciences… shows his peculiar view on this magical day through the design of the label. Last edition label has been designed by the Spanish fashion designer, Roberto Verino.
