TERRAACQUA PROJECT

TERRAACQUA is a R&D project, whose main objective is to obtain olives with a high concentration of potentially healthy compounds (antioxidants and anticancer agents) for the further elaboration of a high added value extra virgin olive oil with & its relationship with the physiological performance of olive trees. To obtain these oils, the aim is to approach the crop from an integral point of view, studying the physico-chemical properties of the olive tree and its relationship with physiological behavior, using the most innovative technologies in the field of agronomy.

The project is carried out by CORTIJO GUADIANA, company owned by CASTILLO DE CANENA Group. Cortijo Guadiana is in charge of the olive oil production itself in the Estate which belongs to CASTILLO DE CANENA, which at the same time, it’s leader in the production of premium  Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). CASTILLO DE CANENA has the support of the Institute of Agricultural and Fisheries Research and Training (IFAPA), the Institute of Natural Resources and Agrobiology of Seville (IRNAS-CSISC) and the Public University of Navarra (UPN) as research centers.  With a budget of 621,288 euros, it is co-financed by the European Union and by the CDTI – Center for Industrial Technological Development – with FEDER funds, through the Pluriregional Operational Program for Smart Growth 2014-2020. The actions planned in the framework of the project last for almost three years and take place between May 9th 2016 and 30th April 2019.

CASTILLO DE CANENA is a Group with a clear innovative vocation at the holistic level since its origin. Within this philosophy, CASTILLO DE CANENA has been developing and continues working  on dozens of R&D projects which cover all fields of activity: agronomic, environmental , industrial, in obtaining innovative products, packaging, branding, strategic marketing, etc.
